Europe & The Byzantine Empire
They talk about many things in chapter 9 Europe & The Byzantine Empire such as feudalism, crusades,the vikings also the code of Chivalry and Hagia Sophia. In the ninth and tenth centuries the Vikings, Magyars, Muslims invaded Europe. The Vikings were Scandinavian warriors who used longboats that enabled them to attack towns and villages far from the coast. They were made a part of the European civilization after Frankish rulers gave the Vikings land in Normandy and converted the Noreemen to Christianity. A system of lords and vassals spread throughout Europe after the collapse of the Carolingian Empire this is known as feudalism. The more land and money you made you were ranked higher. Warriors of western Europe , particular France, formed the first crusading armies. These knights were mostly motivated by religion. But some sought adventure and welcomed the chance to fight. They saw and opportunity to gain wealth and a possible such as a pope. The crusades caused mistrust and quarrels between Muslims and Christians that still exist today. The Muslims and Christians fought for control of the holy land of Jerusalem during the crusades. Saladin led the muslim forces to retake the holy land of Jerusalem from Christian crusaders during the second crusades. These are some of the things i learned from chapter 9 from Europe and the Byzantine Empire.
